Battle of the Varietals
March 2018
There is so much amazing wine grown all over this state! And with climates being so different all over the state, you'd think each region would grow completely different wines. Most of the time you'd be right, but there are a few varietals grown in multiple places.
Last year’s Battle of the Varietals was so popular we decided to try it again! This year, explore a Syrah from the Willamette Valley and one from the Rogue Valley. And for our whites, a Pinot Gris from the Columbia Gorge and one from the Willamette Valley. What a great way to really understand what makes each place unique!
Our first Syrah, from Helioterra Wines, is grown here in the Willamette Valley. Mostly grown in warmer climates, this is an unusual grape to be found up North and so different from our second Syrah from Agate Ridge in the Rogue Valley. Our first Pinot Gris is from 51 Weeks Winemaking and will be paired with a Pinot Gris from Stave & Stone Winery in the Columbia Gorge. Two beautiful expressions of this popular grape!
In the end, all areas of Oregon produce outstanding wines — and we love to share them with you!
